Two major roads cross in the town centre: the A483 from Swansea to Chester and the A489 from Machynlleth to Craven Arms. Brecon is a market town and community in southern Powys, Mid Wales; it is the third largest town in Powys and is situated to the north of the Brecon Beacons mountain range, within the Brecon Beacons National Park. The west end of Brecon has a small industrial area. Brecon is a thriving community and is popular as a holiday destination.
The east end of town has two military establishments; Dering Lines, and The Barracks, home to 160th (Wales) Brigade. Approximately 9 miles to the west of Brecon is Sennybridge Training Area, an important training facility for the British Army.
