Oxfordshire has major education and tourist industries; it is also noted for the concentration of performance motorsport companies and facilities. Oxford University Press is the largest firm among a concentration of print and publishing firms; the University of Oxford is also linked to the concentration of local biotechnology companies.
The main centre of population is the city of Oxford, with other significant settlements including Banbury, Bicester, Kidlington, and Chipping Norton to the north of Oxford; Carterton and Witney to the west; Thame and Chinnor to the east; and Abingdon, Wantage, Didcot, Wallingford and Henley-on-Thames to the south.
The county has two universities, significantly the University of Oxford and also Oxford Brookes University, both are situated in Oxford. The "dreaming spires" of the University of Oxford play a large part of Oxford being the sixth most visited city in the UK for international visitors.
The bus services are mainly provided by the Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach Oxfordshire. The Oxford to London coach route offers a frequent coach service to London and also runs the Airline services to Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Oxford has had three main railway stations serving serviced offices in Oxfordshire, with numerous routes including CrossCountry services to as far away as Manchester and Edinburgh, First Great Western services to London Paddington and other destinations such as Worcester, Banbury and occasional Chiltern Railways services to Birmingham.
