Call them by their names: Australian Aboriginal place names are officially recognised by Australia Post - and by Flexioffices.

As of this week, Australia Post has published guidelines on how to include traditional place names when using the Australian postal service. Given that Aboriginal people have inhabited Australia for more than 60,000 years, it is about time that Australian place names be restored to their past authentic signage. This is part of a much wider and crucial fight for social change: to keep indigenous culture in the form of language alive.

The fight is not over, but this is a fantastic development that we support wholeheartedly.

Aboriginal woman, Rachael McPhail started the campaign which now has over 15,000 signatures. McPhail’s petition on change.org also acknowledges that her fight is not over:

I am also calling for Australia Post to collate a comprehensive and accurate database of traditional place names, by consulting with Elders and First Nations knowledge holders on each Country.”

There is a way to go for indigenous peoples connection to the land to be acknowledged, but this is a promising development and one Flexioffices wholeheartedly supports.

Search for your next workspace using Aboriginal place names on Flexioffices website.

We invite you to start your workspace search on our site and trial out the following names:
