Only 29 miles west-north-west of Charing Cross in London, the town has a population of over 95,000, the town’s weekly market has been held on the High Street since medieval times.
High Wycombe’s past has been a combination of industrial and market town, with a particular emphasis on furniture production. The large redevelopment in the town’s centre includes the development of the town's existing shopping centre and the completion of the new Eden Shopping centre and the redevelopment of the Buckinghamshire New University. The redevelopment also includes large apartment buildings, a multi-million pound hotel being built in the centre and a new Sainsbury's store on the Oxford road next to the Eden shopping centre and bus station.
